The government is currently undertaking various efforts at multiple levels concerning reforms and restructuring in the education sector. In this context, when university academics and educationists from different disciplines are expressing a wide range of views, the National Shoora Council organized a consultative forum in the dual purpose of gaining clarity on this matter and determining the stance that the Muslim community should adopt.
The event was held last Saturday(23.08.2025) in Colombo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and was attended with great enthusiasm by university professors, provincial assistant directors of education, school principals, and many others connected to the field of education, who shared their views.
It is noteworthy that the event was conducted simultaneously online to enable participation of those unable to attend in person.
The consultative forum featured a presentation on the draft plan of the current educational reforms—its goals and content—followed by a lecture analyzing the positive and negative aspects within it.
As a key segment of the event, participants were divided into four groups, each presenting their opinions in a discussion format.
At the conclusion, a special committee of 13 experts was appointed to conduct further research on the subject and to prepare a report that reflects both the aspirations of the Muslim community and the needs of the nation.
Those who wish to contribute their opinions on this matter may send them to the official email or the official mobile number of the National Shoora Council.
