The Presidential Election is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 21.09.2024, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
First, as Muslims, and then as citizens of this country, we must adhere to the highest Islamic moral values and the country’s laws when voting.
In this regard, the National Shoora Council wishes to present the following guidelines to Muslims regarding voting in this election:
- Voting during elections is considered a ‘Shahada’ (testimony) in Islam, and it is both a religious duty and a practical necessity. Therefore, every eligible voter must cast their vote for the candidate they believe is most suitable to become President.
- A voter must cast their vote for the candidate they believe will uphold the country’s sovereignty, promote unity among different ethnic groups, foster economic prosperity, and improve the quality of social life. The vote should be cast with the sole intent of pleasing Allah and for the well-being of society and the country. Making decisions or voting based on selfish interests, personal gain, or lack of foresight is considered false testimony, which is one of the gravest sins in Islam. Hence, it is a social responsibility to act with unity, foresight, and purity of intention in voting for the right candidate for the nation’s welfare.
- As per the saying of the Prophet, “O Allah! Bless my Ummah (community) in their early mornings” (Abu Dawood 2606), we should head to the polling stations and cast our votes as early as possible.
- We must fully cooperate with the officers, security personnel, and staff working at the polling stations by following the rules of the polling station in a proper manner. While standing in line and voting, we must conduct ourselves with calmness and dignity.
- When voting, we must present any valid identification card approved by the Election Department to the polling station officials and fully cooperate with them.
- Those who wish to cast preferential votes must follow the guidelines provided by the Election Department.
As Sri Lankan Muslims, who represent around 10% of the vote, we are obligated to exercise our valuable votes for the nation’s welfare, fostering national unity, and respecting human rights, religious rights, and the rule of law, to elect a President who will establish peace and order in the country.
Leaders may change, and people’s choices may change over time, but societal unity must not be compromised. Everyone has the right to vote for any politician of their choice. Therefore, during this election and after it concludes, we must act peacefully, with compromise, and with dignity, without allowing violence or disputes to arise.
On the day of voting, let us especially make dua (prayer) during Tahajjud prayer, particularly during the Sujood (prostration) and Ath-Thahiyath (sitting) positions, asking Allah to grant prosperity to all the people of the country.
If the candidate we voted for is elected, let us be grateful to Allah. If the candidate we voted for is not elected, let us remain patient and accept Allah’s decree. In all circumstances, we place our trust in Allah.
Everything is in Allah’s hands; only what He wills will happen. Let us frequently remind ourselves of the Qur’anic verse:
“Lord over all authorities! You give authority to whoever You please and remove it from who You please; You honour whoever You please and disgrace who You please—all good is in Your Hands.”(Surah Al-Imran, 3:26)
O Allah, may the most suitable leader be elected for this country! May You help him be compassionate towards all people, patriotic, and work for the well-being of everyone! May You grant a prosperous and bright future for this country!

2024 ஜனாதிபதித் தோ்தல் -தேசிய ஷூரா சபையின் வழிகாட்டல்கள்
ஜனாதிபதித் தோ்தல் 21.09.2024 சனிக்கிழமை காலை 7.00 மணி தொடக்கம் பி.ப.4.00 வரை இடம்பெறவிருக்கிறது.
முதலில் நாம் முஸ்லிம்கள் என்ற வகையிலும் அடுத்ததாக இந்த நாட்டின் பிரஜைகள் என்ற வகையிலும் வாக்களிப்பின் போது இஸ்லாமிய ஒழுக்க விழுமியங்களையும் நாட்டு சட்டங்களையும் உயர்ந்த பட்சம் கடைப்பிடிக்க வேண்டும்.
அந்த வகையில், இந்தத் தேர்தலில் வாக்களிப்பது தொடர்பாக தேசிய ஷூரா சபை பின்வரும் வழிமுறைகளை முஸ்லிம்களுக்கு முன் வைக்க விரும்புகிறது:-
- தேர்தலின் பொழுது வாக்களிப்பது இஸ்லாம் கூறியுள்ள ‘ஷஹாதா’ (சாட்சியமளிப்பது) என்ற வகையில் அது ஒரு மார்க்கக் கடமையும் நடைமுறை வேண்டி நிற்கும் தேவையுமாகும். எனவே, ஜனாதிபதியாக வருவதற்கு உயர்ந்த பட்சம் பொருத்தமானவர் என தான் கருதும் ஒரு வேட்பாளருக்கு வாக்குரிமை பெற்ற ஒவ்வொருவரும் வாக்களிப்பது அவசியமாகும்.
- இந்த நாட்டின் இறைமை, இனங்களுக்கிடையிலான ஐக்கியம், பொருளாதார சுபிட்சம், உயர்ந்த சமூக வாழ்க்கைத் தரம் என்பவற்றை ஊர்ஜிதப்படுத்துவார் என தான் நம்பும் ஒருவருக்கு வாக்காளர் வாக்களிக்க வேண்டும். அல்லாஹ்வின் திருப்தியையும் சமூக மற்றும் நாட்டு நலனையும் மட்டும் முன்னிறுத்தி இந்த வாக்கு அளிக்கப்பட வேண்டும். மாறாக சுயநலம், தனிப்பட்ட இலாபம், தூரநோக்கின்மை என்பவற்றின் அடியாக முடிவெடுப்பதும் வாக்களிப்பதும் பொய்சாட்சியம் கூறுவதாகும். இஸ்லாத்தில் அது பெரும் பாவங்களில் ஒன்றாகும். எனவே, தேசத்தின் நலன் கருதி, பொருத்தமான ஒருவருக்கு வாக்களிப்பதில் ஒற்றுமையாகவும், தூரநோக்குடனும், உளத்தூய்மையுடனும் செயற்படுவது சமூகக் கடமையாகும்.
- “யா அல்லாஹ்! எனது சமூகம் நேரகாலத்தோடு செய்யும் விடயங்களில் அபிவிருத்தி செய்வாயாக!” (அபூதாவூத் 2606) என்ற நபி மொழிக்கேற்ப நாம் இயன்றவரை நேர காலத்தோடு வாக்குச் சாவடிகளுக்குச் சென்று வாக்குகளை அளிக்க வேண்டும்.
- வாக்குச் சாவடிகளில் கடமைபுரியும் உத்தியோகஸ்தர்கள்,பாதுகாப்புப் படையினர், ஊழியர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் வாக்குச்சாவடி சட்டங்களை உரிய முறையில் கடைப்பிடிப்பதன் மூலம் நாம் பூரண ஒத்துழைப்பை நல்க வேண்டும். அங்கு வரிசைகளில் நிற்கும் பொழுதும் வாக்களிக்கும் பொழுதும் மிகவும் அமைதியாகவும் கண்ணியமாகவும் நடந்து கொள்ள வேண்டும்.
- வாக்களிப்பின் போது ஆள் அடையாளத்தை ஊர்ஜிதப்படுத்த தேர்தல் திணைக்களத்தால் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்ட ஏதாவது ஓர் அடையாள அட்டையை வாக்குச்சாவடி அதிகாரிகளுக்கு காண்பிப்பதுடன் அதற்கு பூரண ஒத்துழைப்பையும் நல்க வேண்டும்.
- விருப்பு வாக்குகளை பிரயோகிப்பதற்காக விரும்புவோர் பொதுவாக தேர்தல் திணைக்களம் வழங்கியுள்ள வழிகாட்டல்களை பின்பற்ற வேண்டும்.
சுமார் 10 வீதமான வாக்குகளைக் கொண்ட இலங்கை முஸ்லிம்களாகிய நாம், தேசத்தின் நலன் கருதி, தேசிய ஒற்றுமைக்கும் இனங்களுக்கிடையிலான ஒருமைப்பாட்டுக்கும் வழிவகுத்து, மனித உரிமைகளையும் சமய உரிமைகளையும் மதித்து, நாட்டில் சட்ட ஒழுங்கை நிலைநாட்டும் ஜனாதிபதி ஒருவரை தொிவு செய்வதற்காக எமது பெறுமதிமிக்க வாக்குகளைப் பிரயோகிக்கப் கடமைப்பட்டுள்ளோம்.
ஆட்சியாளர்கள் தொிவுசெய்யப்படலாம், மக்கள் தொிவுகளும் காலத்துக்குக் காலம் மாறலாம். ஆனால், சமூக ஒற்றுமை பாதிப்படையக் கூடாது. எந்தவொரு அரசியல்வாதிக்கும் வாக்களிக்க ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் உரிமையுண்டு. எனவே, இந்தத் தேர்தலின் போதும் தேர்தல் முடிந்த பின்னரும் வன்முறைகளோ வாதப்பிரதிவாதங்களோ இடம்பேறாமல் நாம் அமைதியாகவும் விட்டுக்கொடுத்தும் பண்பாகவும் நடந்து கொள்வது எமது கடமையாகும்.
வாக்களிக்கும் சனிக்கிழமை தினத்தில் தஹஜ்ஜுத் தொழுகையில் குறிப்பாக சுஜூது, அத்தஹியாத்து ஆகிய நிலைகளில் அல்லாஹ்விடத்தில் மன்றாடி நாட்டு மக்கள் அனைவரதும் சுபீட்சத்துக்காக பிராத்திப்போம்.
நாம் வாக்களித்தவர் தெரிவு செய்யப்பட்டால் அல்லாஹ்வுக்கு நன்றி தெரிவிப்போம். நாம் வாக்களித்தவர் தேர்வு செய்யப்படாத போது பொறுமையாக இருந்து அல்லாஹ்வின் நாட்டத்தை ஏற்றுக் கொள்வோம். எல்லா சந்தர்ப்பத்திலும் அல்லாஹ்வின் மீது பொறுப்பு சாட்டுவோம்.
அனைத்து விடயங்களும் அல்லாஹ்வின் கையிலே இருக்கின்றன; அவன் நாடியவை மாத்திரமே நடைபெறும் என்ற நம்பிக்கையோடு இருப்போம்.
“அல்லாஹ்வே! ஆட்சிகளுக்கெல்லாம் அதிபதியே! நீ யாரை விரும்புகிறாயோ அவருக்கு ஆட்சியைக் கொடுக்கின்றாய்; இன்னும் ஆட்சியை நீ விரும்புவோரிடமிருந்து அகற்றியும் விடுகிறாய்; நீ நாடியோரை கண்ணியப்படுத்துகிறாய்; நீ நாடியவரை இழிவு படுத்தவும் செய்கிறாய்; நன்மைகள் யாவும் உன் கைவசமேயுள்ளன அனைத்துப் பொருட்கள் மீதும் நிச்சயமாக நீ ஆற்றலுடையவனாக இருக்கின்றாய்.” (3.26)
என்ற குர்ஆனிய வசனத்தை அடிக்கடி ஞாபகப்படுத்திக் கொள்வோம்.
யா அல்லாஹ் இந்த நாட்டிற்கு மிகப் பொருத்தமான தலைவர் தெரிவு செய்யப்படுவதற்கு நீ உதவியாக இருப்பாயாக! அவர் அனைத்து மக்கள் மீதும் இரக்கம் உள்ளவராகவும் நாட்டுப்பற்றுக் கொண்டவராகவும் அனைவரது நலங்களுக்காகவும் உழைப்பவராகவும் இருக்க நீ உதவியாக இருப்பாயாக! இந்த நாட்டிற்கு நல்லதொரு சுபிட்சமான ஒளிமயமான எதிர்காலத்தை தருவாயாக!
